What is Shashthi

Karttikeya presides over this day and is favourable for coronations, meeting new friends, festivities, and enjoyment.

Meaning of Shashthi

Shukla Shashti is the name for the 6th Tithi (lunar day). It’s the 6th Tithi of Shuklapaksha. It’s nature is Yasha Prada, which can be interpreted as “one that gives fame”. It’s good for following works: house, land; service social customs; market & marketing, trade, sale – purchase; art; painting of sculpture; wood work; war, Alankar, deeds related to Pitris (ancestors); jewellery; clothes designing, oil massage; donation and welfare; actions related to water. Referring to the most classical texts (Muhurta Chintamani, Poorva Kalamrita, Brihat Samhita) Karttikeya (Lord of valor) presides over this day and is favorable for coronations, meeting new friends, festivities and enjoyment.

Festive Shashthi

Skanda Shasti Vratham The Skanda Shasti or Kanda Shasthi Vratham is an important observance. It is especially for Lord Muruga. The festival is observed in Aippasi. Devotees fast during these six days. Although the festival is dedicated to Lord Murugan, Shukla Paksha Sashti in the lunar month of Kartika is the more significant one of the two. Devotees fast for six days. This lasts on the Soorasamharam day. The day after Soorasamharam is Tiru Kalyanam. The day after Soorasamharam is known as Subramanya Shashti, or Kukke Subramanya Sashti. It falls during lunar month Margashirsha.

Sashti  

Skanda Sashti is an important vrat observed on Sukla Paksha Sashti. Chhath Puja is also observed on Sukhla Paksha Sashti of Kartik.

Skanda Sashti

Skanda Sashti is an important Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Skanda – God of war. It celebrates the Victory of Lord Skanda who defeated the demon Surapadma to memorialize the triumph of good over evils. This auspicious festival is observed on the 6th day of the lunar month as per the Tamil Calendar. Skanda Sashti is also known as Kanda Shashti. Lord Skanda is also known as Kartikeya, Subramaniya, Skanda, Kumara Swami, and Kumaran.

The festival of Skanda Sashti is a ten days long event in Tamil Nadu and some other states. In the temple for Lord Subramanya located in Tiruchendur, a grand festival is celebrated on these days and to conclude the festival the event of Sura Samhar or the killing of the demons by Lord Skanda is enacted to this day. Devotees throng to witness this grand event and seek the blessings of Lord Skanda.

Hal Sashti

Hal Sashti the festival of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Shri Balram Ji, the eldest brother of Lord Shri Krishna. Lord Balaram is the seventh child of Mata Devaki and Vasudev Ji. Hal Sashti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Balaram. It is celebrated six days after Shravan Purnima or Raksha Bandhan festival.Shri Balaram’s main weapon is plow and pestle. For this reason, he is also known as Haladhar. In some eastern parts of India, it is also called Lalai Chhath.

Chhath Puja

Chhath puja is celebrated 6 days after Diwali on sukhla paksha sasthi of Kartik month. It is an important festival of Bihar; and also observed in Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal as well as the Madhesh region of Nepal.

Chhath Puja is merely not a Festival, but more than Festival, devotees leave everything they have and head towards to going back to home with Heavy rush in Train and Buses for the Festival dedicated to Sun God for a period of four days. Marwari in some part also becoming the part of this Festival and worship the Sun God. The state of Bihar shine and people from all parts whether in India or aboard make it a point to go home for Chhath Puja.

 

Shasti Tithi

Sixth date of both the pakshas in Chandra Maas is known as Shashti tithi. The tithi of Shukla paksha is known as Shukla Paksha Shashti & the tithi of Krishna paksha is known as Krishna Paksha Shashti. The ruling lord of Shashti tithi is the son of God Shiva & Goddess Parvati ie. Skand Kumar, who is also known by the name of Kartikeya.

Shashti Tithi Yoga

Shashti tithi falls on a Sunday or Tuesday, whichever paksha it may be. On this day Mrityuda yoga is formed. Opposite to this, if Shashti tithi falls on a Friday then Siddha Yoga is formed.

It is a Nanda tithi and it is considered auspicious to worship lord Shiva in the Shukla paksha of this tithi, but it is not auspicious to worship lord Shiva on the Shashti tithi of Krishna Paksha.

Work that can be done during Shashti Tithi

The Shashti tithi is considered to bring success in the work done during this time. It is also considered to perform hard work during this time. Work like building a home, creative works or ammunition making work etc. are considered to be good during this time. If you desire to perform difficult work and want to achieve success in it, then it can be done during this time.

It is also considered good to perform courageous work during this time. Works like architecture, decoration, wearing new clothes can also be done in this date.

What are the qualities of a person born in Shashti Tithi?

When the native is born in this tithi, then he can be fond of travelling. Due to this hobby, the native can get opportunities to visit different places. He will try to visit new places & will learn about the new environment. He can be short tempered by nature & he can suffer from abdominal pain.

Hal Shashthi –

The Shashti tithi of Krishna Paksha in Bhadrapad month is celebrated as Hal Shashthi. The elder brother of Shri Krishna ie. Balram was born on this date, due to which this day is celebrated as Hal Shashti. On this day, worshipping his weapon ie. Hal or plow is considered auspicious. On this day, females observe fast to bear a child or for their happiness.

Skand Shashti –

A remarkable thing has been mentioned about Skand Shashti is that, Shashti tithi of shukla paksha in Ashan month & Shashti tithi of krishna paksha in Kartik month are celebrated as Skand Shashti. On this day, Lord Shiva’s son Skand was born. On this day observing fast & worshipping Lord Skand holds importance.

Chandra Shashti –

The Shashti tithi of Krishna paksha in Ashwin month is celebrated as Chandra Shashti. On this day Chandra dev is worshipped. And then water is offered to the Moon, that completes the fast on this day.

Champa Shashti –

Champa Shashti is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month. It is believed that by observing fast on this day, the native is freed from all his sins & gets the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Surya Shashti –

Surya Shashti is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad month. On this day Sun lord is worshipped. By chanting Gayatri mantra along with worshipping Sun lord, frees the native from all the problems. By fasting & worshipping on this day provides good luck, children & health to the native. During Sunrise, Puja Stuti path of Sun lord should be recited.

Krishna Shashthi Tithi

Shashthi Tithi

According to the Hindu calendar, the sixth day is called Shashthi. Shashti falls in both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. Shashti comes twice in a month. Shashti has its own special significance in Hinduism. The famous festivals falling on Shashthi Tithi are Durga Puja, Sitalasthi, Skanda Sashti or Subramanya Shashthi and Chhath Puja. Lord Shiva’s son Kartikeya is worshiped on the day of Shashthi.

Effects of Birth in Various Thithis

The lunar days are called tithis and each month has 30 tithis, which may vary from 20 to 27 hours . New Moon to Pournami is called Shukla Paksha and Pournami to Amavasya is called Krishna Paksha. 

There are 16 tithis in the Hindu Panchanga. Every 12* difference between Sun & Moon forms a tithi. There are 15 tithis during the Krishnapaksha or dark fortnight and 15 in the Shuklapaksha. 15th Tithi in the Krishna Paksha is Amavasya and the 15th Tithi in Shukla Paksha is Pournami.

Following are the effects of birth in each Thithi ( Both in Krishna paksha and Shukla Paksha) : 

1. People born in the Padyami (1st Thithi)   will be well educated,Wise, will be having a big family, will wear Gold ornaments, will be Gentle men, friends of Kings and will be bright with handsome features.

2. People born in Vidiya ( Dwiteeya) will be Donors, Benevolent,Gentlemen, Wisemen, Greedy minded, Will practice good habits, will be of pleasing personality, and famous.

3. People born in Tadiya ( Truteeya) will be highly educated, will have high levels of libido, will be strong bodied, will be wealthy due to favours from the king, witty, will reside in foreign countries, and will lead a luxurious life.

4. People born on Chavithi (Chaturdhi) will take loans for business or other purposes, will be brave persons, good at warfare, will spend less, will not be kind hearted people, will be interested in gambling, will be argumentative.

5. People born on Panchami will be well built, will be endowed with wife, friends, will enjoy favours from the king, will have charitable nature.

6. People born on Sashti will be speaking only truth, will be endowed with sons and wealth, Will be long legged, will be bright with distinct sparkling features, will be very famous but will have sores on their body.

7. People born on Saptami will knowledgeable, Gentle men , will be wide eyed, will respect sadhus , will be of god worshipping nature, will have girl children more, will be greedy and will steal others money, will win over their enemies.

8. People born on Ashtami will have all kinds of wealth in their possession , will be graceful , will beget sons, will be educational officers in the Government, will be respectful to women but will be agile. 

9. People born on Navami will be averse to help relatives, will talk tough , will be against knowledgeable people, will not adhere to usual dharmic practices but will be supportive to those who practice. 

10. People born on Dasami will be dharmic in nature, will be prosperous and will have grandeur, will be long necked, will be liberal minded, will be knowledgeable in various Sastras, will be ethical in nature, will have high libido.

11. People born on Ekadasi will be God and Brahmin worshippers, will be of charitable nature, peaceful minded, will be scholars, will do dharmic deeds and will be doing only good deeds. 

12. People born on Dwadasi will be efficient, will be always in their own home, will lead a luxurious life, will donate food to the needy, will get wealth from the Government, will beget sons. 

13. People born on Trayodasi will be satwic in nature, will have long neck, will beget sons, will be task masters, will be witty and will have high libido.

14. People born on Chaturdasi will be cruel natured, will like humour, will have high libido, will contradict themselves on issues, can be easily aroused for fights or arguments. 

15. People born on Pournami  will have tender body, will have lawfully earned money, will always be happy, will have excessive luxuries , will be compassionate, will tend to be dharmic always. 

16. People born on Amavasya will be peaceful in nature, will respect parents, will have hard earned money, will like to always travel, will have respect and fame, will have less influence, will be slim bodied.
